Welcome To Temple Beth El!

April to June 2017

I am excited to invite you to a very special Friday Night Live on January 13th at which time we will welcome “Gathering Time” in a unique Shabbat Service featuring the music of Peter, Paul & Mary!  Now that I have your attention, let me tell you a bit more!  The following description of the service is found on the website of “Gathering Time;” When one realizes that much of the mission of folk music and religion is the same –cultivating compassion, caring for humanity, promoting peace and acts of loving kindness – it is a natural fit for some of the best beloved folk songs of the iconic folk trio and other ‘60s groups to be a part of a creative worship service.”

Now, you might be asking what can you expect to hear at such a service.  According to our own Stuart Markus, the leader of the trio, ‘We’ll start with the song “Hurry Sundown,” which speaks of laying down one’s cares and burdens at the end of the day; we’ll also include “Day is Done” at the beginning or at any point of the service where children are involved, due to the words “And if you take my hand, my son, all will be well when the day is done.”

This is truly a notable year for our Temple.  As I have been reflecting upon those events and programs that we enjoy, I am sure that you will agree that one such program is our widely-acclaimed “Richard W. Briskin Cantor-in-Residence” Shabbat and weekend, at which time we present a cantorial student from the HL Miller Cantorial School of The Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City.  From Friday evening, March 31st, through Sunday, April 2nd,we will be welcoming Jen Rolnick, a 5th-year student, who received her Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Miami.  She is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in both Sacred Music and Jewish education at the Jewish Theological Seminary.  I hope that you will learn more about Ms. Rolnick both by exploring other articles in this Kol and online.

We are indebted to Henra Briskin and family for continuing to bring us this incredible initiative each and every year.

I look forward to greeting you at both of these wonderful presentations!

B’Shalom,

Hazzan Martin Leubitz
