What will my child/ren learn in these classes?
K-2 Hebrew: This is an introduction to Hebrew letter-sound recognition and the basics of Hebrew language. Children go through the consonants and their sounds, as well as learn basic Hebrew words that are associated with common objects, prayers, and ritual. By the time the children finish the class, depending upon their own level, they may start working on the vowels. Tutoring is offered, but is optional.
K-2 Ritual: This class focuses on teaching our early learners the rituals, customs, meanings, and history of the holidays and Shabbat. It also teaches day to day Jewish rituals, such as saying the Shema before bed, Kosher laws, and other daily living.
K-2 T’fillah: This goes over the basics of a Friday night and Saturday morning service. Each week, the class does a mock service and explains the meanings of the prayers. They practice prayers such as Shema, Modeh Ani, V’havta, and several others.
3-7th Grade Hebrew: This class focuses mainly on developing skills necessary to ease into B’nai Mitzvah preparation with a secondary focus on foundations for conversational Hebrew. Moving forward this will be two one-on-one or small group 20 minute tutoring sessions during the week instead of classes, to better accommodate individualized skill levels.
3-6th Grade Jewish Values: This class will focus on the Jewish Values of Achrayut (doing what one can to improve the world) and Hakarat Hatov (seeking joy and being grateful) this semester, and serves as an engaging educational opportunity to learn how we can live out our Jewish values in the real world.
7th Grade Jewish Identity: This class will focus on the Jewish Values of Achrayut (doing what one can to improve the world) and Hakarat Hatov (seeking joy and being grateful) this semester, and serves as an engaging educational opportunity to learn how we can live out our Jewish values in the real world through the lens of relevance to our 7th Graders specifically.
3-7th Grade T’fillah: This class helps students become more comfortable with prayers and develop a more meaningful prayer practice. 3-4th graders focus on the Kabbalat Shabbat service, while 5-7th graders focus more on the Saturday morning Shabbat service.
3-6th Grade Israel Club: This club, led by our Shinshinim, Oren and Itamar, is an opportunity for students to grow their knowledge of Israel and engage with Israeli culture!
