UPCOMING CALENDAR/SCHEDULE
Shabbat, May 22 LAST JUNIOR CONGREGATION OF THE YEAR! Please join us for our final Shabbat service for 2nd – 6th graders for this school year., led by the ever-popular Zipporah Kleinberg. Mrs. Kleinberg promises a great conclusion to the year, with everyone getting to read Torah and a special ice cream cake. As usual it will be fun, educational, lively, and meaningful, so don’t let your kids miss it! It begins at 10:15 AM in the chapel.
Sunday, May 23 YES, THERE IS SCHOOL – AND IT’S THE LAST DAY!! Many of our teachers are counting on winding up some of their units this Sunday. In addition, many children didn’t really feel any “closure” because we ended the day last Sunday at TBK, and there was no school this past week due to Shavuot. So please do your best to have your children at school for our regular schedule of classes from 9:00 – 11:30. At 11:30 we’ll be joining the congregation for the …..
TEMPLE BETH EL MUSIC FESTIVAL a program of the TBE Music Committee, who invites you to join them for a variety of musical acts and a delicious lunch, all free of charge! The festival will be held upstairs from 11:30 – 2:30. Please see the attached flier for more details, and make sure to read the article below to understand how the Religious School will fit in to the program.
Shabbat, June 5 LAST SHABBAT MISHPACHOT OF THE YEAR! Please join us for the final Shabbat service of the school year for PK – 1st graders. We have had a fantastic year this year, and we want to thank Rochelle Feldman for her songleading and Nira Mehlenbacher for her leadership. We especially want to thank Melinda Yanoff for her several years of leadership, as she will be “retiring” from this position. So make sure you come to services and say thanks to our leaders and goodbye to Morah Melinda!!
TBE MUSIC FESTIVAL (AND THE LAST PART OF SCHOOL) THIS SUNDAY, 5/23
This Sunday we will be holding classes as usual from 9:00 until 11:30. At 11:30 we will be taking all our students upstairs for the first act of the TBE Music Festival, a new and exciting program of the TBE Music Committee. They will have an opportunity to listen to their oldest schoolmates, Koolanu’s Nefesh Orchestra, comprised of very talented TBE teens. At around noon the music committee will be serving all those in attendance (adults and children) a free pizza lunch, with pizza, salad, drinks, and brownies. Following lunch, the Music Festival continues with the Sephardic sound of Farrah.
We encourage all of our parents to join your children upstairs for the music festival and lunch, beginning at 11:30. Children whose parents have not joined them by 12:30 will be dismissed from school. Kindergarten and First Graders MUST be picked up in the upstairs foyer at 12:30. All others who are not staying will be waiting for their parents on the sidewalk as usual – I will wait with them to ensure their safety.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SURVEY
First, I am extremely impressed that 57 families have responded to our surey so far – almost 50%. Thanks to all of you who responded already. Statisticians are generally quick to point out that the people who are most eager to complete surveys are those who feel most passionately about the subject – on either end of the spectrum. This usually lead to a “self-selection” bias which can cast doubts on the meaningfulness of the survey. The only way to avoid this is to make sure your response rate is as high as possible.
For our survey to be meaningful, we need even more responses than we have, particularly in certain grades. So far, here’s how our response rate is looking by grade:
Kindergarten 45%
First 73%
Second 80%
Third 69%
Fourth 87%
Fifth 57%
Sixth 70%
Seventh 73%
PLEASE, if you haven’t already spent the mere 6-10 minutes to complete the survey, do so now by clinking the following link. Thanks, and sorry to keep bugging you! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/V25GD6R
THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE TBE PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION GARAGE SALE
Sunday May 16th was an exciting day for TBE’s Parent Teacher Organization. For the first time, our largest fundraiser was held inside. No more fighting off those “early-bird” shoppers during morning set-up. Thanks to a handful of wonderful volunteers, our sale was off to a brisk start before 8:00 AM. Both temple and community members shopped and mingled throughout the day. The bargains were so good, almost no one walked away empty handed! The 1:30 bag sale left a minimal amount for clean-up.
A big thank you to the volunteers who helped keep everything running smoothly throughout the day: Daphne Cohen, Jody Dietz, Elyse Gilman, Jennifer Goldenberg, Jacqui & Matthew Lipschitz, Merle Markus, Howard Ressel, Freyda Schneider, Michael Silverstein, Ellen & Sam Stern, Sheryl Tatelman, and Susan Trumble. Last, but certainly not least, our gratitude to Barry Gruber, Randi Fox Tabb, and Michelle Caron for all of their help and support, and to Joe Samluk and the Beth El custodial staff, who helped with both set up and clean up.
We thank our temple members who generously donated toys, videos, books, children’s clothing, and household items. It was a very successful and enjoyable day.
**Please start saving your tax-deductible donations for next year!**
A HEARTY MAZAL TOV TO OUR 7TH GRADE GRADUATES
This past Wednesday, the first day of Shavuot, our 7th graders helped the Hazzan lead the Hallel prayer, led many of the concluding prayers, and received their diplomas – all very meaningful ways to mark the culmination of 8 years of Religious School. We trust that this “end” will also mark a new beginning, as we look forward to 100% of our Religious School graduates to enroll in our unique and exciting high school program, Koolanu. Look for registration materials in the mail in June! Our congratulations to Jesse Bennett, Sarah Cline, Tamar Feldman, Alexandra Gabay, Jolie Gittleman, Haley Glazer, Michelle Hollenberg, Gabi Lipschitz, Jasmine Moszkowicz, Eli Schwartz, Julie Shapiro, Mindy Srolis, Shoshana vanLeeuwen, Amy Wagner, and Amelia Weinberg!
